Set in the rolling fields of our friendly, family-run Cumbrian farm, enjoy a stay on an all weather camping pitch that’s perfect for your touring caravans, campervans, tents and pop up tent trailers. Whether you’re exploring the Lake District, heading for the Solway Coast, or visiting Carlisle and the Eden Valley, this is your easy-access base for outdoor holidays in all seasons.
An all weather camping pitch means you can set up in comfort even after a wet journey. The stable, well-drained gravel surface keeps you level, dry, and mud-free — ideal for spring getaways, autumn adventures, or those famously unpredictable Cumbrian summers. No sinking wheels, no soggy tent floors — just a relaxed start to your holiday. For tents – it’s a good idea to have a tarp to place under your groundsheet on a gravel pitch. We would also recommend bringing heavier duty tent pegs and a sturdy hammer to penetrate the gravel. Each pitch has its own water supply so there’s no need to fill up your tank, you can plug straight into the tap.
The bays include the following facilities:
2 might minimum stay during peak season and a three-night minimum on bank holidays. Please call if your stay doesn’t meet this as its always worth ringing to discuss your specific requirements.
Camping at Cardewlees is ideal for camping and touring holidays in Cumbria’s northern areas. It’s in easy striking distance of parts of Northumberland, the Borders and the western reaches of Hadrian’s Wall country. Here you’ll have access to all the essentials you need for a stress-free stay.
As a campsite location we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the ease of access to Carlisle’s city facilities, the obvious attractions of the Northern Fells and villages and the quieter understated pleasures of the Lakeland fringes and the Solway Plain.
Facilities include:
Staying at our all weather camping spot puts you in the heart of Cumbria’s adventure country. From peaceful lakeside strolls to lively village shows, there’s always something new to explore — whatever the season.
Just north of Keswick, a scenic half hour drive away, Bassenthwaite Lake offers gentle shoreline paths, picnic spots, and some of the best wildlife-watching in the Lake District. In spring and summer, the nearby Dodd Wood osprey viewpoint gives you a front-row seat to see these incredible birds raising their young. The red squirrels here are pretty photogenic too!
One of Britain’s most atmospheric prehistoric sites, Castlerigg Stone Circle is ringed by mountains and steeped in mystery. After soaking up the views, pop into Keswick for its bustling market, small independent shops, and perhaps a performance at the Theatre by the Lake.
Whether you hire a rowing boat, take a launch, or simply walk along the shore, Derwentwater’s island-dotted waters are pure Lake District magic. A short stroll brings you to Friars’ Crag, where the view opens onto dramatic fells and still, mirror-like water.
A short drive from the campsite, Caldbeck charms with its stone cottages, old watermill and welcoming tearooms. Walk along the Howk gorge to see waterfalls tumbling through limestone — a quieter corner of natural beauty.
If you fancy a change of scene, head west to the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here, wide sands and saltmarsh glow gold at sunset. Bowness-on-Solway marks the end of Hadrian’s Wall, blending coastal scenery with Roman history.
If your visit falls in early August, don’t miss the Dalston Show. It’s a proper family day out, with livestock, local produce, vintage machinery, and plenty for children to enjoy. The village festival in the same week adds music, food, and a friendly, small-town buzz.
We welcome dogs with well-behaved owners! There are great walking routes from the campsite gate, including trails across farmland and into the surrounding park and area countryside.
Please keep dogs on a lead at all times around the site and clean up after them to help us keep the site dog-friendly for everyone.
We may be smaller than a typical holiday park, but our location and welcome make all the difference. You’ll find that our all weather pitches are a popular choice, but you can also try:
Our serviced pitches are available from early spring through late autumn.
Minimum nights: 1 night, Sunday to Thursday all year, during the week, 2 during peak season and at weekends. 3 night minimum over bank holidays.

Check availability and book online or if your plans don’t fall within this, it is always worth giving us a call — we’re always happy to discuss your plans.
Absolutely — we’re one of the most dog friendly campsites in Cumbria. Dogs are welcome as long owners are well behaved… and you dogs tell your owners to keep you on a lead at all times whilst on site but we do not have a limit on the number of dogs you can bring. We have no issue with you making a secure enclosure within the boundaries of your pitch. Obviously it is expected that your human cleans up after you’ve done your business.
Large enough for a caravan, smaller motorhome, or tent with awning, plus space for a car.
Yes — you can park alongside your pitch for easy access.
Not yet on-site but there are chargers nearby at Dobbies and at Orton Grange Cafe.
Our all weather pitches are level and close to facilities, making them suitable for guests with limited mobility.
We do not allocate pitches, so we suggest that you leave something on your pitch when you leave so people know it is reserved. However if you are visiting with friends it is worth contacting us so we can endeavour to get you two pitches together.
When camping at at Cardewlees you can camp with friends in tents as well.
