If you’re looking for a non-electric campsite near Carlisle where you can properly switch off, breathe out, and enjoy camping the way it’s meant to be — welcome to The Paddock at Camping at Cardewlees. It’s a spacious, grassy field with open views and a relaxed, back-to-basics feel. There’s lots of practical information and booking options below, and you can find out even more in our paddock guide for guests.
Whether you’re after a quiet night under canvas, a simple base for walking and exploring Cumbria, or somewhere your group can spread out and make memories together, The Paddock keeps it simple and roomy.
Book your own spot in The Paddock for peaceful, non-electric camping.
Prices start from £20 per night. Add £5 per additional person
Want the entire field to yourselves? You can hire the whole paddock exclusively — ideal for family gatherings, friends’ weekends, or groups who want their own private “social hub”.
Whole site bookings start from £250 per night
(Keeping exclusive hire separate also helps protect the calm, spacious vibe for individual campers.)
Hire the whole paddock for you and your dog(s) to give them a safe place to run around off-leash and enjoy the freedom and fresh air as much as you.
Available for bookings from Sunday – Thursday only.
The Paddock is designed for that traditional non-electric camping feel. We can also accept other camping units as long as the ground conditions allow — if you’re bringing anything other than a tent, just message us and we’ll advise based on the time of year and recent weather.
Water point on site (for refilling bottles, washing up bits, etc.)
Fire pits available to hire (because the best chats happen around a fire)
Parking by your pitch where possible — ground conditions permitting
One of the best parts of staying here? You don’t have to drive everywhere. There are two pubs in Dalston, and you can walk in using our route from Cardewlees into the village.
We’ve written a full, real-life guide to the walk (including where the track brings you out and what to expect) — see our “Cardewlees to Dalston Track” blog post for directions.
