Things to Do

Explore the Lake District and Cumbria

Thanks to our great location, we’re very lucky to have plenty to do on the doorstep. From the mighty lakes and mountains of the Lake District, to the long sandy beaches of the Solway Coast, and even the Border City of Carlisle, there’s lots to choose from, no matter what you love to do.

Below are some of our top recommendations for things to do in Cumbria and the Lake District. All are within easy reach of the campsite by car, and some by bus or train. If you need even more recommendations, feel free to get in touch, or stop one of us during your stay. We’re all local, so we know exactly what’s what.

Note: We get a small commission from some of these links, but we’ve only made suggestions that we know ourselves, or which have lots of positive reviews.

Talkin Tarn

Path alongside Talkin Tarn

A nice little tarn for a gentle walk that suits all ages. There are ducks to feed, woodlands, and a tea room. You can also do water sports with Talkin Tarn Adventures, and orienteering.

Silloth

Model aeroplane in Silloth

The traditional seaside town of Silloth is a short drive away and has an aviation museum, a large green, arcades, and seaside walks. There are also plenty of cafes, markets, a Sunday car boot, and regular events.

Keswick

Derwentwater in the Lake District

One of the Lake District’s most popular areas, Keswick is a pretty town that’s just a short drive away. There are lots of museums, attractions and walks, and it’s right on the edge of Derwentwater Lake.

Ullswater

Boat on Ullswater

Our nearest lake – and one of the most beautiful. We like to go for the occasional wild swim or paddle, but you can also do other water activities, take an Ullswater Steamer across the lake, or stop at one of the surrounding villages.

Fusion Trampoline Park

Girl jumping on a trampoline at Fusion Trampoline Park

Carlisle has lots of options for a rainy day, but our kids (and sometimes the adults) especially love the indoor trampoline park. As well as a big trampolining space, there are zip wires, soft play, climbing walls, and more.

River Caldew Walk

Pebbles alongside the River Caldew

The walk from the campsite down the track to the River Caldew is lovely. You can stop for a paddle by the white bridge, or continue walking on to Carlisle on the last leg of the Cumbria Way long-distance walk.

Bitts Park

Play area in Bitts Park, Carlisle

Especially during the summer when the water fountains are on, Bitts Park in Carlisle is a great place for families. It has gardens, a splash park, and a skate park. The Hadrian’s Wall National Trail also passes nearby.
