Tent, Van or Caravan — Camp Side by Side on Our Electric Pitches

Welcome sign at Camping at Cardewlees

Electric hook-ups along the fence line (so you can still camp like a gang)

If you love the proper camping vibe — fresh air, kids tearing about all day, and that golden “sit down by the fire and have a natter” feeling come evening — but you also love the luxury of electric, then our electric grass pitches in the main camping field are going to be your people.

These are the pitches for:

  • “I just want to boil the kettle without balancing it on a camp stove in the wind.”

  • “I need to charge 47 devices because apparently everyone’s battery lasts 12 minutes.”

  • “We’re camping with friends, but we’ve all turned up in totally different contraptions.”

And yes — that last one is exactly why we do these pitches the way we do.

Our electric hook-ups are scattered along the fence line of the main camping field, which means you get the best of both worlds:

  • Power nearby
  • Space to spread out

  • And the ability to pitch up alongside your mates, even if you’ve arrived in different “units” (camping language makes everyone sound like they’re in the army, doesn’t it?)

These pitches work brilliantly if you’re coming as a mixed bunch — say:

  • you’re in a tent

  • your friends are in a motorhome

  • someone else has turned up with a caravan / campervan / trailer tent

…and you still want to be next to each other rather than dotted about like you’re avoiding eye contact at a wedding.

Loads of room for the kids… without losing sight of them

One of the best bits about the main camping field is the layout: it gives the kids plenty of space to play and roam (the dream), but it’s set up in a way that means you can still always keep an eye on them from your pitch.

So they get that lovely “freedom” feeling… and you get the peace of mind of knowing they’re in view while you’re making brews, sorting tea, or sitting down for five minutes like a normal human.

“Do you accept groups?” Yes. But read that again: Yes.

Before you ask — we do accept groups.

Not because we’re running an all-night rave venue (we are absolutely not). But because we appreciate that lots of people camp the way we do:

Keep the kids happy in the day… and when evening comes, you want a campfire, a cuppa (or something stronger), and a proper chat.

That’s the magic of camping, isn’t it? The bit where time slows down and you actually finish a conversation without someone shouting “MUMMMM” every 14 seconds.

Music is allowed up until 10pm — after that, it’s “low voices, sleepy site” vibes. Because everyone deserves to wake up feeling fresh (or at least less broken than they would at home).

What you can bring on these pitches

We keep it simple: all types of units are welcome on the electric grass pitches (weather permitting), including:

  • Tents

  • Caravans

  • Motorhomes

  • Campervans

  • Trailer tents

And because these are grass pitches, there’s a relaxed “choose your spot and settle in” feel — with the hook-ups there along the fence line to keep things practical.

A quick “please do” (the boring-but-important bit): one tent per pitch — that’s a condition of our campsite licence.

The “little comforts” that make camping easier

Electric on a grass pitch is one of those things you don’t realise you love until you’ve had it.

It means you can:

  • keep the cool box doing its job

  • keep the phones charged

  • plug in the kettle for an instant brew

  • and generally make life a bit easier without losing the outdoor feel

And because we’re still very much a family-run, proper farm campsite, the atmosphere stays friendly, simple, and down to earth — not “holiday park chaos”.

Did we mention toilets and showers are included, no need to scramble for the pound coins.

We apologise in advance for the nosey neighbours!

The practical bits (so you know where you stand)

A few key things to know for the electric grass pitches:

  • Minimum stay: 2 nights in peak season and on weekends; 3 nights on bank holidays, 1 night stays always allowed midweek.

  • If your stay doesn’t match that, it’s always worth giving us a ring — we’ll try to accommodate where we can

  • In wet weather, touring units may prefer a hardstanding/gravel option (we’ll happily advise when you book)

  • Fire pits are part of the Cardewlees camping experience (because obviously)

How the pitches are laid out (and how not to nick your neighbour’s electric 😉)

Along the fence line you’ll spot white markers — these are what identify each electric pitch. It’s a simple system and it works a treat, especially when the field is busy.

A quick but important point: space along the fence is naturally limited because that’s where the hook-ups are, but you’re absolutely welcome to use as much space stretching into the centre of the field as you need for your awning, your seating area, the kids’ bits and bobs… the whole camping sprawl.

The only thing we ask is this:

  • Stay within your white-marker boundaries along the fence line

  • Because if you pitch over those lines, you’re likely to block someone else’s hook-up, and then it turns into a very British standoff of polite smiles and simmering rage while everyone tries to work out whose cable is whose.

So yes — spread out into the field, make yourselves comfy… just don’t creep sideways along the fence and accidentally steal the electrics.

If you find yourself short of anything whilst staying with us we do have some basic supplies in our honesty shop.  But if you fancy some proper retail therapy why not take the short drive to Penrith and visit https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/pages/stores/go-outdoors-penrith

Ready to book (and camp together, properly)?

If you’re after electric grass pitches near Carlisle that still feel like real camping — with room for tents and tourers, and the option to camp alongside friends even if you’ve all arrived in different set-ups — our main field electric pitches are ready when you are.

Pitch up. Plug in. Keep the kids happy.

Then come evening… light the fire and have that long-overdue natter.
