Arrive, breathe out, kettle on, when you book a fully serviced caravan bay
If you’re new to caravanning, you probably imagine the same thing we do: you arrive, you breathe out, the kettle goes on, and the holiday starts.
Not “where’s the nearest tap?”
Not “why is this hose suddenly fighting back?”
And definitely not ten trips back and forward before you’ve even found the biscuits.
That’s why our fully serviced caravan bays at Camping at Cardewlees are fully serviced. In plain English, you’ve got your own water and electricity supply right at your pitch. No wandering backwards and forwards to the water tap needed. Just an easier, calmer start to your break.
And because we’re perfectly placed on a popular route, we’re often used for one-night stopovers to and from Scotland too. If you’re breaking up a long drive, we know you don’t want fuss — you want to park up, plug in, and get your head down. We try to be as flexible as we can with arrival times for exactly that reason.
Don’t be put off by the name though!
You don’t need to be in a caravan to use them either. Our fully serviced hardstanding bays work brilliantly for motorhomes, campervans and trailer tents as well. Same easy set-up, same water and electric on pitch, and the same “kettle on fast” feeling the minute you arrive.
Caravan, motorhome, campervan or trailer tent — if you want water and electric right on your pitch, you’re in the right place.
Fully serviced bays: what it means in real life
“Fully serviced” sounds fancy, but the magic is actually very practical.
It means:
- Water on your pitch
- Electric on your pitch
So when you arrive (especially if you’re a beginner), you can get set up quickly and start enjoying yourself sooner. It’s the difference between feeling like you’ve arrived on holiday… and feeling like you’ve started a small logistics operation.
Each bay is nine meters wide and twelve meters long, so plenty of space for even the biggest units. If you are worried that this might not work for you please just drop us a call.
Hardstanding bays for all year round escapes
All our caravan bays are hardstanding, which is one of those things that doesn’t sound exciting until you’ve tried pitching up after a proper Cumbrian downpour.
Hardstanding means your pitch is solid, reliable, and works brilliantly for all year round escapes — whether you’re here in summer sunshine or sneaking in a quieter, off-season break when life’s a bit hectic and you just need a reset.
Oh and did I mention that each pitch comes with a fire pit and firewood can be bought from us! Do you have friends that camp in a tent? No worries you will all be in the same field.
But it is worth remembering that we only have the five bays so they fill up quickly!
Arrival times, check-in, and “we’ll look after you”
We keep the main timings simple:
- Check-in is after 3pm
- Check-out is before 10am
We also offer early check-in and late check-out via your guest login (subject to availability), which can make a big difference if you’re travelling a distance.
Our gates normally close at 10pm, but if you’re on the road and running late, we genuinely do our best to make sure you’re looked after. We’re a family-run site — we know travel plans don’t always behave.
The practical bits (and the awning amnesty)
We’ve got grey waste and chemical disposal points on site, because the practical stuff matters just as much as the pretty views.
A quick heads-up for hardstanding pitches: bring what you need for the awning.
- Strong pegs
- A hammer
And now, the official Cardewlees caravanning rule:
Anything said during the erection of the awning needs to be forgotten. He/she didn’t mean it. 😅
Don’t worry if you have forgotten anything there is a Go Outdoors Express in Carlisle https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/pages/stores?location=carlisle
Or if you need gas there is garage only five minutes away https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/find-station/esso-cumbria-essocardewlees-100349694
Dogs are welcome (and yes, bring them all)
We’re dog-friendly and we keep it simple: dogs are welcome, with no maximum number on how many you’re allowed to bring.
Want to create your own pen for them at your pitch? You’re welcome. It can make life easier — especially if you’ve got a lively one who thinks every passing leaf is a personal threat.
Oh… and please make sure you check out this blog post to help you find your way to the village without having to walk along the main road it will lead you onto the last part of the Cumbrian Way. https://www.campingatcardewlees.com/the-cardewlees-to-dalston-track-built-for-campers-powered-by-teen-sulking/
